alright so i had hella time on my hands today and im glad i got out of the apt and came home to design layouts and fudge around with HTML&CSS. so i updated this, my blog, and my *new* blog. i'm glad that i changed layouts cuz they were looking very bleak and lame. so since this is probably the last blog til 09, R.D's resolution is up our ourselves on game and produce the line whether it is Spring/Summer/Whenever, so let's hope/work for the following.

Lately I've been on/off from creating designs for the opening line, whenever that may be, because of the obvious shit (school, community, family). In the meantime I've been checking out The Hundreds' blog and honestly homeboy Bobby Hundreds graduated from UCSD and then just came up hard. It got me thinking about my future with designing & clothing (RD). Whether or not all the shit we do comes into fruition, I'm gonna be better than:

adam bomb and co.

That's my goal bottomline as a designer.

To be better than The Hundreds. 

I know its a big goal it might take me 5 years to be even close, but a lot of what Hundreds does/did, I want(ed) to do. By being a better designer than I was yesterday, I'll be the better designer I am today and tomorrow..

I'm coming after you Bobby Hundreds.

Reducing 3 to 2

2 Tone RD(1st draft ver.)

When Raf told me to do a 2-tone I was kinda skeptical about it. After all, my eye in art is more toward I am too much in love with the 3-toned RD logo already because each color represented one of us (or so i believe). Anywho, the more I look at the 2-tone I say "eh...can it really work?" I thought about it for awhile, and after finishing it. For now I posted the 1st draft, I just finished the final draft now, it looks mega dope. I'm going to dig it more when we do different colors. This may be our first demo piece when we release it the first week of September.

Well to be honest, I don't know if that's going to be the official name of this piece. I woke up 7am and started working on it and its already 11am. It is incomplete and i'll finish the rest tonight. To give a quick grasp, its the 9 attributes (might fix it to make 10) that are the characteristics of RD or modern society/generations born after the late 70's/today's street subculture/etc.etc.(you get the idea?)'s characteristics. I'll finish the pillars, side boxes and vintage effect later. I'm resting for now.

RD Rabbit

If you try hard enough you can see the RD symbol in the rabbit. The rabbit was inspired by many random korean and japanese cartoons.. the most notable one being the Papel caddie from PangYa

okay theres a story to this. so back in the bay for my final collection for my PACE internship i made this box & shirt for my cultural coordinator. the shirt was chocolate brown and i stenciled a faceless female onto it with black & white. it was kinda like symbolic of kinda 'keep the women close to your heart' type of shit. the idea recently resurfaced today during school. so the first shirt i made it was a 1 of 1. i never made another shirt and never sprayed another one like it. & to kick it was more of a down for the brownness message. this time its more of a play on music & hip hop. 

i'm not sure if R.DEF as a whole will put this into production. i wasn't feelin the fonts at all, but as a personal project i will probably make this into a shirt with a sprayed RDef logo on the back & without text.

Out of the blue drawings

When I decide to not take notes in class, I draw whatever comes in my mind when it comes to some potential shirts.

The first one (left) is just a piano keyboard, simple. was thinking of adding a few musical notes or scores from a classical song that represents.... a certain meaning.

The second one (right) follows the quote: "The New High" I don't usually listen to lyrics to music... which probably answers why I don't care what language it is in, but the lyrics: "I am the new high y'all weed back" stood out to me. I thought, dope... we are the new high no need for a drug for that. ha. I guess in a nutshell its suppose to mean. whoever is wearing that shirt.. you don't need to do bulgogi to be dope and become self acceptant.

Life and school been sorta hectic on me the last month, but things are calming down.

Anywho, I've been trying to let myself engulf lots of concepts and ideas lately.
Trying to work with themes such as: Political leaders on the side of Darwinism or absolute law, philosophers, military concepts, and the tricky of them all brain stimulation designs. I'm actually looking forward to all the ideas that are on the table. Currently, the only design I finished are personal designs. and of course.. the RYB RD design.

yeah, three mock-ups i felt inspired to do last night due to a spike in caffeine found in my blood. read: a 32 oz. caramel iced coffee via McDo. The first was my take on Barbara Kruger's advertising/design style. ***Supreme copied her shit first. Then the next two have to do with a famous design that has got everyone doing their own take on:

Yes, the Jolly Roger. Everyone's doing their own shit, but really what does the Jolly Roger mean? aka Skull & Crossbones. Its a flag flown on naval ships to signify their crew are pirates. I don't know how much we are actually removed from its original meaning, but I believe that we forget its original meaning. So my last 2 designs flip it. The R/D logo on a striped background refers to the current and original jack of U.S. Warships while the 2nd with the R/D logo with stars adjacent takes from the 2nd jack of U.S. Warships used from Revolutionary times to just before 'The War on Terrorism' began. I'm not trying to flood your mind with information, but the reason behind these naval type designs is that, fk the mainstream. Which R/D is about. If everyone wants to be a pirate, someone gotta hold it down for the Admirals. If everyone wants to be the bad guys, let's be the 'good guys' (although which contradicts our Mira Mesa/PQ-type tendancies. read: our jackassness.)

So yes, an update to say: We're not dead and r/d isn't one of those things you come up with your homies and don't follow through on. But JV & Raf need to start posting random shit, because it looks lame when I just post on a group blog. SUP
